short swim teachers

Anyone who reads the paper, or watches the ABC -- you know, just the two of us -- has known for a year or two that there is an extreme shortage of swimming teachers.

Not just in WA but Australia-wide.

The WA gov offers to pay for kids to learn to swim.

which would be an excellent idea -- except  that there are no swim teachers.

Here's a plan:

Let's guess that, in five years time, it will still be an excellent idea to teach kids to swim.

Use today's budget and begin, now, a major effort to teach the teachers. Start now -- and we may have enough swim teachers... in five years time.

Oh, but hang on...

that will be after the next election.

So, who cares.

Forget the whole idea.

Until long after it is too late... again.
