Suresh Rajan (Letters 31 Oct)would reject a street name which offers a small reminder of the broad base of our modern Australian culture.
The people of Nuristan were torn from their ancestral homes.
Drawn, through war, hardship, slavery and, yes, racial denigration, to offer their support, lives, loyalty to a new country.
They brought culture, history and, yes, their fruiting trees.
To become part of a new and diverse and tolerant Australia.
Now Suresh wants to deny to the Kaffir the simple dignity of a street sign which, in one small way, reminds us all of the depth, strength and acceptance of our cultural origins.
