Zempilas considers Thorpe holding the balance of political power and he finds it to be... scary.
And so it is.
But then, that's democracy.
Crazy electors vote for crazy senators. The result is, a parliament which includes crazies... some of whom may, somehow, gain a position of power.
It would be far easier -- less scary for Basil -- if we removed the option -- the challenge -- of elections.
Allow Basil (and others) to always follow the orders of their employers, of their owners. Do as they are told to do by their anti-democratic masters.
But then... that would not be democracy.
Deal with it. Learn to negotiate. Learn to listen to -- and consider -- the wishes of others. What do they really want? Can we negotiate... compromise... even come to an agreement which satisfies everyone?
Impossible? Certainly very difficult. Possibly even scary.
But that... is democracy.
