You gather and analyse all the facts. You understand the law, learn all you can about custodial processes. You link facts into a chain of logic. You document all of your findings including any findings of blame.

Only to be told that you are wrong. Told by parents. That you are wrong because you did not hand the custodial officers over to the lynch mob.
