I've barely opened the paper and... I'm ready to rant

First: the editorial

Sorrento soccer club hired a player who has been convicted of rape. There is an outcry both inside and out of the club. The club sacks the player.

Okay. The club is right to select players who match club standards.

But wait. Why is the paper getting upset? They are not involved.

The editorial is saying... once a person has been convicted... they are forever guilty. Should never be allowed back into society. One crime and a person is presumed guilty for the rest of their life.

The club needs to be more careful who it brings into the club "family"

The paper needs to report news. And stop stirring up the vigilantes.

Then there's Alston's cartoon.

The homeowner is worried that a backyard pool will go against the new heritage act.

Yes, it's a good joke, I've used it myself.

But why is the caption "in Peppermint Grove"?

The Act applies anywhere. Any suburb could have a backyard pool.

Why not, "In a big backyard in Balga?
