Children are like dogs. They start with no knowledge of social mores. They learn from our example -- and from what we tell them.

Kim MacDonald is almost embarrassed to have reported unwelcome behaviour. She is absolutely right to have taken action in defence of her own child.

If she said nothing, the annoying child would never learn. And could grow up to be an annoying, or worse, adult.

A dog needs to be told, to learn that certain behaviours are unacceptable.

A child also needs to be told. To learn.
