social media menace

once again, an anonymous psycho has used social media to threaten to kill a public figure. and their dog.

if these cowards used their names, they would be charged or sued. the law offers plenty of redress for threats, libel, racism and so on. There are even laws protecting us against some levels of outright lies in commerce.

By hiding on social media, cowards and cheats can do and say what they want.

We need to bring social media users into the same legal system as real people.

Here are some thoughts:

... an ID which other people can use to prove that the poster is who they claim to be

... an ID which allows police, or courts, with reason -- to identify the real person behind a post

... no post is accepted without one or both IDs

... groups such as the AFL may need their own social media platforms, to protect their own players. As any company will have its own platform for its employees.
... the AFL will allow anyone to join -- but only after they have proven their real identity.

Existing and accepted laws can then be applied to the social media psychos
