switch to manual

Apple proudly announces its new "Lockdown" mode.

By default, the iThing switches on when you pick it up. Switches on when you put it down. Switches on when it wants your attention. Switches on when it's lonely. Switches on when you so much as look at it. The thing transfers data from thing to cloud and back again. Won't tell you what or when. Certainly won't tell you where. Won't mention that the cloud exists only in cities.

The always-on iThing is a hacker's dream.

Here's a suggestion: Add an on-off switch to the thing. Allow the user to take a small amount of control.
Label the switch "On-Lockdown" and leave it to your marketing gurus compare it to sliced bread.
