Today's editorial is correct: a bill to ban disinformation is dangerous.
Disinformation is impossible to define.
It depends on... the point of view.
Does the proposed Bill even mention, Truth?
Probably not. Truth is equally difficult to define.
And yet...
Wikipedia, somehow, manages to present "truth".
At least,
Wikipedia presents information which is ... accepted... as being Truth.
Okay, they work in areas where facts may exist.
Perhaps...
Perhaps Australia can provide a "fact-checked database of rumours, claims, conspiracies...
For example:
I know that the Moon is made of cheese.
It must be true...
I saw that Wallace and Gromit have been there and have eaten the Moon cheese.
This would be Followed by a Wikipedia-style... analysed, argued, finally accepted... explanation of Wallace and Gromit. And why their "truth" may be less than true.
Who knows, this may weaken the dangers of some of the wilder conspiracies.
