I'm a supporter of VAD... voluntary assisted dying... but not in the way that it is legislated (in WA).
It is set up so that you *must* be dying ... preferably in pain... before you can choose VAD.
To me, VAD suicide is acceptable. What is *not* acceptable is being forced to kill yourself in secret.
Don't talk to *doctors* ...not only to doctors, anyway about suicide plans: declare it to "next of kin"... or to "emergency contact.
My thinking is to avoid the shock, the horror, of being told that "a loved one" has committed suicide.
Suicide is, in my mind, acceptable. Being forced to do it in secret is truly cruel
... to suicidee and to survivors.
Kids in gaol commit suicide rather that stay in gaol... and rather than return to whatever life lead them to gaol.
If that is the way they feel, allow their "carers a chance for a chat.
Perhaps some problems can be resolved.
And then... if suicide is still the preferred option...
make it an easy VAD.
