nurses must lose

have i mentioned this before? it's been on my mind for a while...

nurses in the state health system are fighting for better work conditions. the state government is, of course, fighting back.

on the one side we have nurses. low paid, low status people whose chosen career involves helping other people.
on the other side we have politicians. people whose career success depends on power plays, manipulation and status.

imagine the result of a politician gives in to the demands of nurses. for the politician... loss of status. reputation as a weak player. loss of power.
for long term career success, the politician cannot lose. cannot afford to be seen as anything other than strong and successful. the politician cannot afford... for purely selfish reasons... cannot afford to not win.
which means, for the politician... the nurses must lose.
