backbone or teeth

The Sunday Times (20 Feb)  had an article which suggested that new MPs lack backbone.  That they are failing to implement the changes that they demanded during the last state election.

I was a candidate in that last election. I can understand the lack of success.

My fellow candidates had a mix of experience. Some represented special interest groups. They had the interest but lacked political experience.

Others were involved in local affairs. Again, with limited political experience.

There was one long-time "professional" politician, the sitting member  He made an interesting comment:

He had tried to raise an issue which affected his local constituents. The responsible Minister had refused to meet with him.

An experienced politician could not even get a meeting with a fellow MP...

Expecting newly elected MPs to implement change is like throwing a lamb amongst the wolves. And expecting the lamb to change the dinner menu.

Forget the backbone. Those political wolves have teeth.
