Kate Emery is worried that AI image generators will "reinforce dangerous stereotypes"
Is Emery really that ignorant?
An AI generated image is, in simple terms... an average of millions of images harvested, or stolen, from the Web.
The AI uses images which seem to match the user's request.
Try a simple Google search for, innocent child. The first few dozen images will match the stereotype that so scares Emery.
That's because the stereotypes are already there -- in our Web. In our societal attitudes. -- and in theway that we label and identify the images which are available for every item on the Web.Its all in the way that we already label Web images.
Now search for Australian family. Again, Google returns the most common images. Add the word indigenous and guess what? Google returns images of families with dark skins. because that is how the existing images are labelled.
